A New Favorite Quilt Book - Quilt-opedia

I found my new favorite quilt book at the library last week.  I picked it up, put it back, then took it home where it sat on a table for a few days. 

 

I am glad that I decided to crack it open and look inside.  Its Quilt-opedia and its full of projects that I cant wait to try out.

 

This week, I even have a finished top to share. 

 

 

The pattern is titled "Obsession", but I have been calling it the triangle quilt.  Somehow, I think that I'll always remember it as the quilt I made while watching a WKRP marathon.

It is a large quilt that is made entirely from stash fabric.

It is the first time I have ever made a ROYGBIV (rainbow) quilt.  The hardest part was selecting and cutting the fabric squares because I wanted to use up scraps.  I found that doing this type of quilt will also show you holes in your stash. I'm thinking a shopping trip for orange fabrics is needed.

 

I am not sure what project from the book I may make next, but I'm thinking I may need a new iPad cover for Quiltcon.  Hey, February 2015 will be here before you know it.

Le Challenge - Charity

This month's Le Challenge  theme is "charity" and I knew right way the project I wanted to share. 

 

I recently made this quilt for the Hands 2 Help Challenge and was very pleased with how it captured my goal of making a masculine quilt.

  

I am also working on some other projects, that you may want to check out.

 

• I had a few tops left that I couldn't finish in time for the Hands 2 Help Challenge deadline, but Sarah accepts tops and other items for use in their quilt ministry. 
 
• If you have orphan squares, check out the Soy Amado project at Little Island Quilting.  I am amazed at how good all the squares look together in these quilts. 
 
• The For Pinks Sake Blog Hop is currently collecting any pink blocks over 4 inches.  I made some pink house blocks using my favorite house tutorial.

 

• Crazy Mom Quilts is having a Scrap Basket QAL benefiting Margaret's Hope Chest.  The feature quilt uses a rail fence pattern, but they will accept quilts in any pattern.  They really have a need for boys quilts, so I have been searching the stash to see what I can create.
 

 I hope that this month's Le Challenge theme has gotten you thinking about ways to share.

WIP Wednesday - Texas Road Trip QAL

With me being from Texas, there was no way I could pass up the Deep in the Heart of Texas QAL at My Fabric Relish.

I totally got into this quilt pattern and finished Quadrant 1 (northeast Texas)!  It is very easy to sew together since the pattern is broken into sections.  It is so easy, that I actually got ahead a bit.

 

This quilt was made using scraps from my stash of Denyse Schmidt fabrics.  A few of the pieces did get turned around.  But since this is meant to be scrappy, I decided to keep the pieces as is and did not get out the seam ripper.

I can see myself making several of these as gifts!

Hands 2 Help Challenge - Final

Today is the day to link up our projects for the Hands to Help Challenge. This is my second year and I know that I will be back again next year for a 3rd time.

 

I am very happy to say that I have met my goals for this year - improve my machine quilting from last year, make one quilt for each of the 3 organizations, and to make a masculine quilt. 

 

 

I had a difficult time trying to design a masculine quilt, but I think this simple striped quilt works out well and was sent to Happy Chemo.

 

 

This quilt was made as part of the Molli Sparkles Broken Herringbone QAL and was sent to Happy Chemo.

 

 

The lovebug quilt was sent to Quilts of Compassion.

 

 

This quilt was made for the Le Challenge theme of "Bright" and was sent to the Hurricane Sandy Survivors.

 

 

This quilt was made for the Le Challenge theme of "Nature" and was also sent to the Hurricane Sandy Survivors.
