Design Wall Monday - Quilts for Boston

I am continuing working on creating quilt blocks for Quilts for Boston.  There are many creative quilt blocks in the Flickr group.

I have found that I don't have much yellow in my stash and really don't use it.  So I am putting "making something yellow" on my to-do list.

I think that these asterisks blocks go together quite quickly.  The pattern is from the Craftsy 2012 Block of the Month class.

Finish it Friday - Quilts For Boston

This week I lamented that I had so many WIPs and I needed to focus on getting them completed.  Well, everything came to a stop when I read that the Boston Modern Quilt Guild is requesting blocks to assemble into Quilts For Boston.

There are a few requirements and the details are listed on their blog.  Basically, its a block made with the colors white, yellow, blue or gray in any combination.  There is also a Flickr group set up to share your blocks.

I found that I don't have much yellow in my stash, but I did open a fat quarter bundle that had all shades of blue.  I have finished several improv blocks and I think the next block will be a wonky house.

There is a quick turn around time and all blocks must be received by May 24th.  I hope to see your blocks in the Flickr group soon!

Design Wall Monday - Marcelle Medallion

Oh, I have so many WIPs on my sewing table that I am beginning to feel like I am drowning in WIPs!

I have started the Marcelle Medallion quilt.  If you have been thinking about trying it but have been wondering if that star was a bit too advanced, I say go for it.  Triangles are my weakness, but I found that using the templates make it go together quite easily.

The next row is equilateral triangles, and there are templates provided as well.  But I think I am going to try to create this row with paper pieced triangles.

Active WIPs
  1. Monthly Le-Challenge mini - This month's theme is "wings".  The mini top is finished, just need to figure out how I am going to quilt it.
  2. Spring Blogger's Quilt Festival - I am still debating on an entry.  I just don't think that the hand quilting will be completed on my very large quilt.  My fingers are very poked and sore right now.  This quilt may just have to wait till the Fall festival.
  3. Modern Mini Challenge -  This was a great source of inspiration last year.  I may have a project in progress.  I am still thinking about it.
  4. Scrap Attack QAL String Fever - I hope to create a mini, but I used up most all my scraps on my spider web quilt (which also needs quilting).
  5. Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge - 3 lap quilts are completed and 1 child's quilt needs binding.
  6. Craftsy - I love Craftsy, and have several modern mini's from the "Inspired Modern Quilts" class that need to be quilted.  I also want to make the lap size variation of these quilts.

Le Challenge - Geometrics

There is a new monthly challenge set up at Le-Challenge and today is the first link-up party.  This month's theme is "Geometrics".  When I saw the theme, I knew that I wanted to work with circles and that this was a great time to try out a block on my to-do list - wonky circles.

I used the wonky circles tutorial at How About Pink Please.  I hand quilted this using red thread in concentric circles about 1/2 inch apart.  I didn't mark this quilt, just quilted kinda free form.

It finished at 27 inches square and I am still thinking of a name.  My mother had the idea to use no visible binding and she finished the quilt with a facing binding method which I think was a good idea.  The binding is on the back side of the quilt and there are no visible binding stitches on the front side.

Here is a close up of the corner.

Check out this month's "Geometrics" entries at Le-Challenge.

I can't wait to see the theme for next month.

Finish it Friday - Craftsy Projects

Last weekend there was a great sale at Craftsy of classes up to 75% off.  I ordered "Inspired Modern Quilts with Elizabeth Hartman" (Oh, Fransson) and I think this may be my favorite class so far.  I know that I will make all of the projects.

I just finished the first quilt top last night, "Tiles".  I really liked making this.  I am a quilter that pins everything, but this quilt went together with no pins.  I can see myself using this pattern again.

I have been thinking about tackling the Marcelle Medallion quilt that many are making.  I live in the 4th largest city in the U.S. and last weekend I could not find a copy of Liberty Love, not in 2 quilt shops, several fabric and craft stores, or a big book store.

But I did find the spring issue of Love Quilting & Patchwork which features the Marcelle Medallion quilt on the cover on sale at Joanns.  I haven't finished reading this magazine, but so far I love it - lots of eye candy.  There is even a feature on Tula Pink (one of my current favorites).

Hands 2 Help Challenge - Update

This year I signed up for the 2013 Hands 2 Help Challenge over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Today is the linky party to share any tutorials that you may have used when constructing the charity quilt.

I used the Long Division tutorial from Crazy Mom Quilts.  This site has plenty of fast and cute tutorials.

I used the brown, red, and purple fabrics from a Journeys bundle by Kathy Davis.  I wasn't sure about the colors of the fat quarters when you look at them individually.  But I was surprised that when I put them all together, it really created a cute top.  I finished the quilting yesterday and now it just needs the binding.

DWM - Triangles Galore

Over the weekend, I thought that I would tackle one of my goals of conquering my fear of triangles.  I have had the Triangles Galore block from Bumble Beans on my to-do list for awhile.

The block was created by paper piecing and it went together quite easily.  I hope to make several more.

I also was able to finish my entry for this month's project at Le Challenge.  The theme this month is "geometrics".  Any type of project is accepted and linkups are on the 15th.
