Happy Leap Day! - February 29th

Not only is today a Leap Day, it is also the end of the month of February and a Wednesday.  So, I am linking up to WIP Wednesday  at Freshly Pieced and the 2012 New FO Challenge at Cat Patches.

February Projects --

(1).  This month, I started a Mod Mood quilt found on the 2010 Mod Mood Quilt Along  and am currently working on the decorative hand quilting.

(2).  I completed an AAQI mini for the February Color Palette Challenge.  Linky party is March 1st.

(3).  I completed a mini to enter in the Modern Mini Challenge  at Ellison Lane Quilts.  I couldn't pass up a chance to win all those lovely goodies.  Linky Party is March 5th.

(4).  I also played along with the Fugly Fabric Party at Charm About You.

I think that I have managed my 2012 goals quite well so far of getting more involved with challenges, blogging more, and learning new techniques.  I have worked on minis, curves, and branched out to more modern quilts.  So far, so good.

Work in Progress Wednesday - Mod Mood Quilt

Linking up today with Work in Progress Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

This past week, I worked on other projects with deadlines but now I am back to work on the Mod Mood quilt.  I have finished a few rings on the quilt and am running out of scraps.  So I think that it is time for me to wrap up the design part and come to a finish.  I think that I will only need a few more arcs and should have the top completed soon.

Design Wall Monday - Mod Mood Quilt

Today I am linking up to Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times.

I have been making progress on my Mod Mood Quilt.  Sunday, I had a rough time joining the pieces because I was trying to do it my way.  I finally gave up and started following the directions.  Now, I am working on creating more arcs from my scraps and I am wondering just how big this will be when finished.

Also, I managed to get all my packages together and mailed for the Fugly Fabric Party.  Hope everyone likes their package and can use the fabric.

Work in Progress Wednesday - Mod Mood Quilt

OMG, I cannot believe that I am going to admit this but...............I started another project.

I can't help it.  There are so many challenges and quilt alongs and contests and linky parties going on in blogland right now that I want to join in.  And the more I look at blogs, the more ideas that I get into my head of new techniques and patterns that I want to try.

It started this past weekend when I started my AAQI mini for the February Color Palette Challenge.  I thought I would try working with curves and was searching for tutorials.  I found the 2010 Mod Mood Quilt Along at Daintytime.

The pattern is bold and something that I have never tried before, or even thought myself capable of doing.  While I was pulling fabric for the Fugly Fabric Party at Charm About You, I noticed that I have more solid scraps than I ever realised.  So after finishing my AAQI mini for February, I thought I would work up a few mod blocks arcs.

I can't believe how well the arcs are going together.  It really does look like a work of art.  I think that the hard part may be arranging the pieces.  I have been totally obsessed with this project over the last few days. As soon as I get home from work, the routine has been - pet dog, feed dog, change clothes, skip dinner and get into the sewing room to create until way past my bedtime. And it feels good to have this mojo back. I have been searching for a project that would energize me again.

I hope that I can keep the momentum going on this project.  And I guess its not to bad, because I did finish the AAQI mini, right?

Today I am linking up to Work In Progress Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

Foto Finish - Through the Window

Today is Foto Finish at Cat Patches and the optional theme this week is "Through the Window".

I like to travel.  In 2010, I went on a Disney cruise in Europe and the shipped docked in Malta.  I spent the day walking around the city and visited St. Johns Co-Cathedral.  This photo was taken out of a second story window at the back of the church.  I was feeling a bit stuffy and was surprised at how cool the air felt by this window.

The back exit of the church is actually underneath this window area.  And what was located on the street right outside the church?  A fabric store.

Next week's Foto Finish optional theme is doors.  I think I can find a few of those from my travels.

Its Party Time!

Charm About You

Time to PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy at Charm About You is hosting a Fugly Fabric Party  link up next Tuesday, February 7th.  So I thought I would go through my stash and pull some fugly fabric that I have acquired through the years.  When people find out that I quilt, I am often gifted with fabric.

Here's a peek at some that I pulled from the stash.  Can you guess what was left from sewing projects that my mom made during the 80's?  Yes, she made shorts and some overalls out it.

Please stop by Lucy's blog and check out more of the party details.  Hope to see you at the party!

Color Pallette Challenge - January

The inspiration piece for January's challenge was created by Vicki Welsh at Field Trips in Fiber.

I really liked the colors for this month's challenge and was able to use all of the fabric from my stash.

I first started to sketch designs with a peacock theme, but didn't think that I could finish those project ideas within a month.  Next, I thought of using an Amish style but I couldn't come up with a final design.  I finally decided to work with the "space" material that was in my stash.

This is a mini quilt created for the AAQI titled "Night Flight".  One of the geese has left the formation and is flying alone.  The piece measures 8.5 x 8.5 and is machine pieced and hand quilted.  It has crystal beads added to every white star on the fabric.

I cant wait to see the other projects made during this challenge.  Stop by Patchwork Times to check them out.  Now, I'm off to get started on February's challenge.

Also, its the first of the month so I am linking up to the Small Blog Meet at Lily's Quilts. I enjoyed this meet up last month and discovered new blogs.  Looking forward to meeting new bloggers this month.
