Work In Progress Wednesday - Webs

Getting closer to a finished top with my spider webs.

Also, getting excited about going to Quiltcon.  The hotel has been booked, so now I am working on gathering supplies for my classes.  I have been quilting for many years, but this will be the first time that I have ever taken a quilt class.

Check out everyone's projects at the WIP Wednesday link up.

Design Wall Monday - Spiderwebs

What is on my design wall?  Well, it is spiderwebs again.  All of the blocks are complete and a top should be ready quite soon.

So, how did I get back to this project?  Well, I was ready to put my stars together during the last holiday weekend.  All the squares were laid out on the living room floor all weekend and I went back and forth trying to decide on 3 possible layouts.  I chose layout #3 and got the top about 25% together and hated it.  So I told myself to give it a chance and kept going till it was 50% complete and -------I still hated it.

This really kinda bummed me out.  My mom suggested that I put the whole project away for awhile and think about it.  She thinks I should complete this layout.  But, I think that since I put all the time and work into hand piecing the stars that I will spend some time with the seam ripper this weekend and go with my #1 layout.

So while I was stewing over the star quilt, I felt like getting some sewing done and went back to my scrap box of strips.  I am quite happy that the spider webs made a big dent in the scrap box!

Also, I got some squishy mail this week from Marta at From Marta With Love.  I won her 100 Day Hustle contest and received a handmade item.  Look at what I got!

It is a linen wine bag and it is excellently constructed.  This is so cute, it inspires me to upgrade my sewing skills.

Oh My, I'm Seeing Stars

I am still trying to be a good quilter and see this project through, without starting something new.  I am down to my last few stars and am still trying to select the best layout.

I thought that I would link up to the monthly Hexie party at Sarah Did It.  I hadn't realized it at first, but I have gotten a lot of comments that these stars look like giant hexies.  Here are a few that I just completed.

This month there are some fab linky prizes, so be sure to check out all the great entries.

Design Wall Monday - Star Parts

I am almoooooooooost done with my stars.  All the parts are complete.  These triangle blocks just need to be pressed, then sewed into stars.

I can feel the end is near and a quilt top of stars will be posted soon.

Design Wall Mondays - Stars

I can't stop making these stars!

I laid them all out on the floor and there are 20 stars, so it may be time to put them together. I still need to cut the sashing strips that go between the stars.

Happy New Year 2013!

To think that about one year ago, I was a new blogger that was stuck in a quilting rut and trying to choose a word for 2012.  The word I chose was "Stretch".  I told myself that 2012 would be the year where I would stretch myself and my skills by trying all new things and techniques.  I even created a set of yearly goals for myself.

1.  Get more involved with challenges
  • I think I entered many challenges this year including the monthly Color Palette Challenge
2.  Blog more and comment more
  • I tried to post more regularly, such as Design Wall Mondays or WIP Wednesdays
3.  Take a class, a retreat, or a quilt cruise
  • I have one Craftsy class in progress and have 3 classes registered for Quiltcon
4.  Make a pouch with a zipper
  • Many completed
5.  Upgrade my fabric
  • Uh.....lets just say I really accomplished this goal and leave it at that
6.  Learn to machine quilt
  • I have a class scheduled at Quiltcon and have done a few minis
7.  Make a mini
  • Made plenty of these this year
8.  Get control over hexies
  • Finally, I think I got over my hexagon issues under control.  I even made my first pillow using all hexies
So, after reviewing my goals I am amazed at how much I got accomplished (why is it that I cannot make this sort of accomplishment on my weight goals!!)

I am looking forward to new things in 2013, and my word for this year is "Build."  I am hoping to build on all the experiences I have had in 2012 and complete more projects. My new goals include:
  • learn to take better photos
  • learn to machine quilt
  • conquer my fear of triangles (those pesky things need to get under control)
