A Lovely Year of Finishes - April

I am happy to say that I have met my April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes.  Its my second scrappy house quilt of 2015.

My goal was to take a pile of Scrappy Houses and make another quilt for the Hands 2 Help Challenge.  I still have enough houses to make about half a quilt so I may need to start digging in my scraps again.

I haven't yet figured out which WIP I will be working on in May,  I have been on a roll completing old projects, but find its not as fun as working on new projects.

Finishing this project is #10 on my 2nd Quarter 2015 Finish-Along list.

Design Wall Monday - Hands 2 Help Challenge

Oy! April may go down as the month where allergies knocked me out.  Not much sewing going on here, so I have a lot of catching up to do!

On my design wall today are these Greek Cross blocks that I had cut out along time ago using pink scraps.  I think this will be a 4X4 layout, so I have a few more to make.

This quilt will be a part of the Hands 2 Help Challenge.  Its not to late to join in.

Also, last time I missed out on the #mypreciousQAL so I wanted to make sure I joined in this time. The goal is to be encouraged to use some of your precious or hoarded fabric.  I was just thinking lately that I needed to use my Cotton & Steel fabric before it became precious stash.

I couldn't quite figure out what to use, Tula stash or my precious Architextures (current fave!), but decided that it was time that Echo came out to play.  Echo may be the first fabric line that I saw as a preview and thought, I need to have that!

Yup, now that I said it, I've got to use it - right.  I guess I'll have to finally unwrap that jelly roll.  Not sure of a pattern yet, thinking something improv.

This week's goals:
  • My second Sew Together Bag as a gift.  My instructions were pink & yellow, bold, and throw some green in it.  Um, OK?  (Does this person not realize I have been destashing all my pinks!)
  • Little Island Quilting has run out of blocks for the Soy Amado project.  I guess I have to mail my box of blocks thats been sitting here.
  • My April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes was another scrappy house quilt for the Hands 2 Help Challenge.  Just needs the binding to be finished.

This should keep me busy for a bit.  Goals are always good, but I can get sidetracked easily with all the quilty goodness in blogland and Instagram.

2015 Finish Along - Quarter 2 Intentions

With 2014 being my year of scrap and stash busting, my goal for 2015 has been to complete my WIPs (unfinished projects).  I joined the 2015 Finish Along and I think I did a good job with Quarter 1, finishing 5 projects from my to-do list.

I have learned though, that it is much more fun to start new projects than to finish old projects!

Quarter 2 Goals -
New Projects

(1) Hazel - 1 block down, 3 more to go.

(2) Just playing with scraps. Not sure what this project will be, maybe a rainbow mini.

(3)  Cotton & Steel Sawtooth Star blocks that I realize need greater fabric contrast.

(4) I found this orphan star block.  Not sure what this will be, maybe a pouch or a mini, maybe I'll add some Star Trek fabric.

(5)  The class project from the Gee's Bend class at Quiltcon.

(6)  Miss Kate Hexy quilt.  All of the hexies have been cut and I have started to put them together in rows.

(7)  Tula Pink Hexy project.  I found in my stash, one of my first attempts at making hexies using a charm pack of Parisville.  I think I may attempt to salvage the project.

Projects returning from Quarter 1.

(8)  Tilt.  Completed in 2012 and with the quilting about 75% complete, I think it really is time to finish this quilt.

(9) Lime Spider Web.  Boy, was I doing the happy dance several weeks ago thinking I had enough blocks for the top.  After counting, counting, and recounting, I was 6 blocks (24 wedges) short.  How did that happen?!

(10)  Even after completing one house quilt in the first quarter, I still have enough blocks for about 2 more quilts.  My goal is to have at least one house quilt finished.

(11)  Pink Greek Cross quilt top needs quilting.
(12)  Lolly quilt blocks are completed using a tropical/floral themed jelly roll.
(13)  Lolly scrap quilt.  All the strips have been cut from yardage since I am not using a jelly roll.
(14)  Hip To Be Square Challenge top completed, just needs quilting

Well, I think that is enough projects for now.  I have a few long term projects that I work on occasionally, but I think I will leave those for another time.

Finish It Friday - Scrappy Houses

This week I finished another Scrappy Happy Houses quilt from the pattern at Quiltville.  This makes the third house quilt that I have made using this pattern, and I love it.  When my scraps are too small for a 2.5 strip or square, they get cut down to 2 inches to use for house building.

I currently have enough houses made to make 1 and 1/2 more house quilts.  My April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes is to complete another house quilt.

Hopefully these happy houses will make someone smile because they will be part of my Hands 2 Help Challenge quilts.  It's not too late too join in the challenge.
