I picked up my book this weekend and was all set to cut into my stash. You see, recently I joined a Flickr swap of Tula Pink Layer Cake 10 inch squares and have received over 100 squares! Its about a 1 and 1/2 inch tall stack of Tula goodness.
But when I started looking at the blocks, I realized that they finish at 6 1/2 square. Most of the block pieces are sized 1 1/2 and 2 1/2. So being the type of person who saves every scrap, I knew that I would be able to use many scraps for these blocks.
I started going through the book and making blocks that matched up with the Tula and solid scraps that I had in my scrap box (uh....I mean boxes).
Finally, I started cutting into a few charm pack and layer cake pieces. I have made 20 blocks so far, and I haven't dented the stash.
This is block #1 from the book (that still needs to be squared). Right now, I am just putting the blocks together in a random color way. Block #2 somehow got turned around and I decided to leave it. Hey, it looks good to me.
I have thought some on the layout, but nothing definite yet. Here is a picture of the completed sampler quilt that I took at Quiltcon. I had no idea that someday I would be making it.

Mina - the coral block is gorgeous! Love it. You go girl - 20 blocks so far and no stash, that is fabulous (you aren't kidding scrap boxES)!!! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

ReplyDeleteThe block looks really beautiful (and so does that finished quilt)!
ReplyDeleteWe are talking in the guild about doing a sew along with these 100 blocks and I think if I do I may have enough scraps just in blue to do most of them -- I love scraps
